On December 11, 2004 UPJ-Bay Area invited members and community activists to an all-day retreat, with the goal of coordinating and adapting our work toward a common agenda. The retreat was attended by 30 people. People really contributed to a growing sense of purpose and camaraderie within UFPJ-Bay Area. Not to get into a real report here about the retreat, but in the afternoon we did get into project area groups, after narrowing the field of potential focus and seeing what action areas fit together under a heading, so that we can direct our work to best effect. The three groups that met were
- The war on Iraq and attendant issues (e.g. oppression of immigrants here)
- Democracy, and the lack of free and fair elections here
- Anti-imperialism in general, meaning to include the work many of us do about militarism and injustice in areas not directly under the heading of “the war on Iraq.”
